HOME / CROPS & CARE
Crops & careA plantation is a calendar you signed for thirty years. These guides lay out what each of the tall four needs through the year — and mark, honestly, which of those needs fly and which stay on the ground.
The slender palm of the Malnad and coastal belts — Karnataka grows roughly two-fifths of the world's arecanut. It repays care generously and punishes neglect in one wet season. A well-run garden yields for 40+ years; a garden that misses two koleroga windows may not recover its canopy for five.
| Season | Ground work | Drone work |
|---|---|---|
| Jan–Mar | Harvest peak, irrigation, manuring | Canopy survey; nutrition rounds for deficient blocks |
| Apr–May | Drainage prep, sanitation, garden cleanup | Book pre-monsoon koleroga round 1 |
| Jun–Aug | Drainage vigilance, remove infected nuts | Koleroga repeat rounds per rainfall; bud rot prophylaxis |
| Sep–Dec | Post-monsoon manuring, inter-crop care | Leaf spot / inflorescence rounds; foliar micronutrients |
Kalpavriksha — the tree of every wish — and the crop whose sheer height defeated a century of spray technology. A bearing palm asks for little but consistency: water, a full nutrient basket, and a crown that someone actually inspects. Most "sudden" coconut problems were visible from the air a year earlier.
| Season | Ground work | Drone work |
|---|---|---|
| Jan–Mar | Irrigation peak, basin mulching | Mite programme on button-stage bunches; whitefly washing where sooty mould built up |
| Apr–May | Manuring with pre-monsoon showers | Boron / micronutrient foliar round at flowering |
| Jun–Sep | Drainage in heavy-rain belts, axil cleaning | Bud rot prophylaxis in wet districts; leaf blight rounds |
| Oct–Dec | Post-monsoon manure dose, undergrowth care | Canopy survey; second nutrition round; whitefly monitoring flights |
India's fastest-expanding plantation crop, anchored in the Godavari districts and pushing hard into Telangana under the national edible-oil mission. Oil palm is a factory that runs on water and nutrients: it will convert every kilogram of balanced fertiliser into bunch weight, and it will document every skipped month in the harvest two years later.
| Season | Ground work | Drone work |
|---|---|---|
| Jan–Mar | Peak irrigation, fertigation rounds | Foliar micronutrient rounds; caterpillar scouting flights |
| Apr–Jun | Mulching, pre-monsoon fertiliser dose | Boron foliar round; outbreak response if defoliators build |
| Jul–Sep | Drainage, weed management | Spindle rot prophylaxis in wet spells; block surveys |
| Oct–Dec | Post-monsoon dose, harvest discipline | Nutrition rounds for young blocks; canopy health mapping |
The crop that built central Kerala and is quietly strengthening in coastal Karnataka and Kanyakumari. Rubber's economics live and die on two disciplines: tapping done right, and the annual pre-monsoon defence of the canopy. A tree that holds its leaves through the rains taps more days and yields more latex — the entire case for prophylaxis in one sentence.
| Season | Ground work | Drone work |
|---|---|---|
| Jan–Mar | Refoliation watch, tapping rest per system | Powdery mildew rounds on tender flush where advised |
| Apr–May | Rain guard fixing, estate roads & drainage | Pre-monsoon abnormal leaf fall prophylaxis |
| Jun–Sep | Guarded tapping, panel care | Leaf fall disease response rounds per advisories |
| Oct–Dec | Peak tapping, manuring | Canopy surveys; late-season disease response if needed |
Annual programmes bundle every drone touchpoint above into one prepaid plan with fixed dates — surveys, prophylaxis, nutrition and a response allowance. One decision in January instead of five scrambles through the year.
Care guidance summarises broadly accepted practice for Southern conditions. Your soil test, your rainfall and your university's package of practices come first — bring them to the conversation and we will build around them.
